Kilcowera Station is a large organically run cattle Station, 1,000 kms west of Brisbane on the Dowling Track. Private and remote, it is a great destination for a week away or as a stopover on a journey through Outback Queensland. Accommodation at Kilcowera is provided in modern and comfortable Shearers Quarters that can sleep ten (10) in five (5) twin share rooms: 1 room with 3 single beds; 1 double room; and 1 queen room also available.
All linen is supplied and more beds are available for larger groups. Amenities include power, showers, toilets, laundry, fireplaces, bbq's, wood and camp kitchen, bird hide, and information desk. There is a landscaped, grassy camping area around the Shearer’s Quarters for caravanners and campers. Guests staying in the Shearers Quarters also have access to the fully equipped kitchen in the Quarters with microwaves, fridges, gas stove and all the pots, plates, cups etc that the discerning traveller could want.
Three (3) kms from the quarters, visitors can bush camp at Cardenyabba Lagoon with a long drop toilet, access to wood for the campfire, direct water frontage and loads of Yabbies. Conventional vehicles are able to access this site.
A more remote campground is located at the Youlaingee Spring area, about five (5) kms from Lake Wyara. Visitors have a long drop toilet, access to fresh bore water, a waterhole and a ten thousand star night sky. You will need a high clearance vehicle to access this campground.
Kilcowera Station is a bird watcher's paradise with over 160 species of birds on their list. Where else can you have breakfast with Bourke's parrots and Major Mitchell cockatoos? Try the new bird hide, conveniently located near a small waterhole, 50 metres from the Shearers Quarters. View the stunning 6000 ha RAMSAR listed salt water Lake Wyara, the breeding place of thousands of swans, pelicans, ducks, shags and terns.
Use Kilcowera as a base for day visits to Currawinya National Park, the village of Hungerford, Thargomindah, Lake Bindegolly National Park, Yowah Opal Fields, Eulo, or Noccundra on the banks of the Wilson River. Upon arrival, all guests are supplied with maps, directions, information on the property, and a bird list.
Accommodation, meals and guided tour packages are available on request. Camp oven meals are a speciality. Payment is by cheque, direct deposit, or cash. Credit Card and Eftpos facilities are not available. Prior bookings preferred.
